Let's Talk Lighting
Ever watch an old movie that is so dark you can hardly see what is going on? Does it make you as crazy as it does me?? I can’t stand being in a too dark room, my husband on the other hand, could live in a cave.
Ever since we moved in together, (8 years ago now, wow!) it has been a constant opening and closing of blinds and flicking of the lights.
Enter, the newest evening solution (because HELLO natural light all day): Accent Lighting!
We recently added this gorgeous light to our front porch. I love to sit out there but the overhead light was so bright at night. This gives the perfect ambient lighting while still being bright enough to read. This light is from one of my favorite local stores, 28 Furniture Co. If you are ever in Plymouth, check them out and follow their IG journey here @28furnitureco. I got lucky and happened upon 2 of these at their clearance sale. (Stay tuned to see where we decide to put the other one!)
The second place we added accent lighting was the master bedroom bedside. At 11 pm, I don’t want the overhead light on waking the whole house up. I had a hard time finding exactly what I wanted for this space. I am so undecided on our master bedroom. Some days I love the dark, moody walls. Other days, I want them covered in a light airy wallpaper.
I wanted something stylish and functional but didn’t want to spend a ton in case I change my mind in 6 months. I found these at Ikea and they fit the bill perfectly. About $20 each and easy to install.
TIP: The bracket on this light is gold but it didn’t come with gold screws. Use a gold Sharpie to make your silver screws less obvious.
And now for a little decor budget busters that I wish I owned! Of course if I could outfit my whole life in Anthropologie, I would.
Where is your favorite place to add an accent light? Are you a live in a cave type like my husband or a natural light junky? Tell me more below!
